Safety Tips for Passengers

We all want to have a pleasant and enjoyable trip when we travel to destinations we love or we dream about. Having this attitude makes us, sometimes to forget little things we need to consider in order to make travel experience the best we can get from.
Therefore, we are putting together some safety tips for passengers to follow in relation with the trip. All the buses we get on have their H&S regulations that have as priority passengers’ safe travel. Thus, is important to respect those regulations and plan your trip ahead. Make sure you pass this information to your group, family or guests that will travel with the service you have chosen.
Planning
Learn about the company
Talk to friends or family and ask for referrals or read online reviews
Check the insurance company and policy number (if there is one)
Read or inquire about safety procedures and policies
Have a clear idea of seating capacity so you know how many buses you need to accommodate your entire group, etc.
Learn about your driver/s
Know about the hours a driver can work
Ask about other information related to the driver’s experience, etc.
Prepare snacks and beverages beforehand in case you need them in between stops
Plan your route and sections that might be added, ahead of time
Always carry identification with you (who you are, etc.)
Check the weather and keep some comfortable clothing appropriate for the conditions you may face during the trip
Make sure your mobile phone is fully charged before heading on the bus
When Boarding
- Watch your step while boarding the bus (some buses have different stair sizes depending on their overall vehicle size and year of production).
- If you need to keep balance, there are handrails to assist you when needed.
- Always make sure your luggage is placed tight so it doesn’t move during the trip.
- Ask your driver for spaces above your seat and about other locations on the bus that you can use to store your stuff.
- Larger items are stored in the baggage bay. Ask your driver for help.
- Take some minutes to look around and locate the emergency exits.
While on the Bus
Check that seat belts are in good working condition. Make sure they aren’t damaged, twisted, or cut.
For your safety, wear your seat belt properly.
For your comfort you can adjust seat position.
Read and follow the instructions on the manual and be sure all parts are undertood.
Keep your arms, legs, and feet away from the aisle while in your seat so you don’t trip or bump other passengers.
Be courteous to other passengers and your driver. Do not distract the bus driver
Make sure children are comfortable and secured with the seat belts.
Bus Restrictions
Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is not allowed
In most of the services alcohol is prohibited, but if otherwise, you can ask the company for self-assurance.
Do not distract the driver.
Keep an eye to the white strip near the driver’s location. That’s for safety regulation to ensure that the driver’s field of vision remains unobstructed. Do not pass that line.
When Leaving the Bus
Do not rush to get out. Let passengers closest to the door exit first. Wait in your seat.
Watch your steps when getting out from the bus
Be aware from traffic and coming hazards around the dislocation area.
If necessary, ask the driver for help when removing your belongings. Do not try to do it yourself when you can’t.
In Case of an Emergency
In emergency, no matter the level of threat, keep calm and follow the emergency rules.
In case of a fire (and the drive is incapacitated or unable to assist), use the fire extinguisher (see the pic. above).
Always look at the driver or team leader for instructions. Do not act only by your instinct and fear.
Emergency exits are located throughout the bus. You have seen them when you first got on the bus.
All buses have emergency window and instruction how to displace them in case of urgency.
Roof hatch are there for to be used in urgent situations.
Last thing about your safety: respect the company’s H&S policies and on-bus regulations for your own well-being during the travel. In case of urgent exit do not think about your belongings but get yourself and, if you can help, others out of the bus.
Make sure these safety tips for passengers are clearly transferred to the group of people you want to accommodate on the bus service. In most of these cases a group leader that represents your company and purposes, and is trained for emergency issues, is more than useful. Safe travel!
